Univ. of Chicago's Adeoye Mabogunje Qualifies for Nationals

Oshkosh, Wis. -- Sophomore Adeoye Mabogunje (Tamuning, Guam/St. John's) met the NCAA Division III provisional qualifying standard in the triple jump as the University of Chicago men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Mabogunje posted a mark of 14.02 meters to take top honors in the men's triple jump competition. He also finished second in the high jump with a leap of 1.91 meters. Sophomore Tom Haxton (Seattle, Wash./Shorecrest) also turned in a first-place finish, winning the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:30.99.

North Central College won the three-team men's event with 157 points to 113 for UW-Oshkosh and 81 for Chicago.

In the women's competition, the Maroons finished third among four teams with 41 points. UW-Oshkosh captured first place with 173.5 points, followed by North Central with 103.5. The University of Wisconsin-Parkside collected 28 points.

Three Chicago women were the runner-up in their respective events. Junior Clarisse Mesa (Fremont, Calif./Washington) ran a time of 2:26.09 in the 800-meter run. Senior Catalina Hoyos (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) posted a time of 19:28.86 in the 5,000-meter run, and sophomore Valerie Anderson (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) recorded a mark of 13.34 meters in the 25-pound weight throw.
