For Immediate Release Marty Perry Appointed Head Tennis Coach Chicago -- University of Chicago Director of Athletics Tom Weingartner announced today that Marty Perry has been named head men's and women's tennis coach. Perry comes to Chicago from Colgate University, where he served in the same capacity during the 2002-03 season. This past year, Perry guided the Colgate men's team to a 10-9 overall record and a 3-3 Patriot League mark and led the women's squad to a record of 10-9 overall and 4-1 in Patriot League competition. "Marty Perry has an extensive teaching background which will allow him to make solid contributions to the department curriculum," said Weingartner. "He also has an impressive understanding of the challenges a selective university faces in attracting and retaining high quality tennis players who have also achieved success in the classroom. His experience will allow him to effectively recruit and teach our student-athletes." From 1998-2002, Perry served as assistant men's tennis coach at the College of William & Mary. During his tenure, he helped the Tribe reach the NCAA Division I tournament in 1999 with a 17-11 record. In addition, he assisted in coaching two ITA nationally-ranked singles players, five ITA nationally-ranked doubles tandems, and two ITA Academic All-Americans. Perry is a 1998 graduate of Cleveland State University. |
