For Immediate Release Maroons Drop Two at Home Invite Chicago -- The University of Chicago volleyball team lost a pair of matches on the second day of the Chicago Maroon Invitational Saturday at the Henry Crown Field House. In the opening match, the Maroons fell to Trinity International University 30-16, 30-17, 30-28. Sophomore outside hitter Katie Meinhover (Ottertail, Minn./ Perham) led Chicago with eight kills and three aces. In Saturday's second contest, Kendall College defeated Chicago (3-14) 30-20, 30-12, 30-16. Sophomore middle hitter Emma Hamilton (Washington, D.C./ National Cathedral) hit five kills, while freshman middle hitter Leslie Kurkjian (San Francisco, Calif./ Lowell) collected four blocks. Sophomore libero Erica Pettke (Sussex, Wis./ Divine Savior Holy Angels) registered 14 digs, giving her 22 on the day and 35 for the tournament. In other matches on Saturday, Dominican University (11-5) defeated Kendall (4-13) 30-28, 30-25, 33-35, 30-27 and North Park University (4-13) 30-18, 30-22, 30-25. Trinity International (24-1) downed North Park 30-24, 30-18, 30-14 in the day's final contest. Hamilton represented Chicago on the all-tournament team, along with Trinity International's Danielle Gisler and Stephanie Whelan, Dominican's Mary Welk, Kendall's Aja Terrier, and North Park's Amanda Klufetos. |
