Chicago Ties for Seventh at UAA Championship

New York, N.Y. -- The University of Chicago volleyball team dropped four matches at the 2003 University Athletic Association Championship Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7-8 at New York University. As a result, the Maroons finished in a tie for seventh place.

In pool play on Friday, the Maroons fell to Washington (Mo.) University 30-28, 30-25, 30-19; Carnegie Mellon University 30-18, 30-25, 30-28; and the University of Rochester 23-30, 30-32, 30-23, 30-25, 15-12. Chicago then lost to Case Western Reserve University 30-24, 30-16, 32-30 in the consolation semifinals.

The Maroons finished the season with an overall record of 7-29, including a 1-10 mark in UAA competition.

Washington def. Chicago 30-28, 30-25, 30-19
Sophomore outside hitter Erica Pettke (Sussex, Wis./ Divine Savior Holy Angels) led the Maroons with 16 kills, 10 digs, and a pair of blocks.

Carnegie Mellon def. Chicago 30-18, 30-25, 30-28
Sophomore outside hitter Katie Meinhover (Ottertail, Minn./ Perham) hit a team-best 14 kills, while Pettke collected 12. Sophomore middle hitter Emma Hamilton (Washington, D.C./ National Cathedral) posted five blocks, including three solos.

Rochester def. Chicago 23-30, 30-32, 30-23, 30-25, 15-12
Hamilton led three Maroons in double figure kills with 18 in addition to eight total blocks. Pettke and Meinhover hit 16 and 15, respectively. Sophomore libero Tracie Kenyon (Sunnyvale, Calif./ St. Francis) recorded 31 digs.

Case Reserve def. Chicago 30-24, 30-16, 32-30
Meinhover hit 14 kills and Hamilton finished with 11. Kenyon collected 23 digs, while Meinhover added 17.
