May 3, 2006 CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago baseball team extended its winning streak to four games as it swept the Milwaukee School of Engineering by scores of 5-0 and 5-4 in doubleheader action Wednesday at J. Kyle Anderson Field. Senior pitcher Dan Yeksigian (Downers Grove, Ill./ Benet) faced just one more than the minimum number of batters in game one en route to his first shutout of the year and third of his career. Yeksigian (7-2) allowed only two hits without a walk while striking out six. Senior third baseman Matt Assad (Gurnee, Ill./ Carmel) collected three RBIs, including a two-run double in the third inning. In game two, the first four batters in the Chicago lineup each had two hits and a run scored as the Maroons hung on for a 5-4 victory. Junior third baseman John Thomas (Bloomington, Ind./ South) drove in runs in the first and fifth frames as Chicago (14-15) took a 5-2 lead into the seventh and final inning. MSOE (13-21) scored twice in the top of the seventh and had the bases loaded when Chicago freshman reliever Alex Gallan (Downers Grove, Ill./ South) forced the Raiders' Kevin Biederer to ground into a game-ending fielder's choice. Gallan retired two of the three batters he faced to notch his first career save in relief of sophomore starter Nathan Ginsberg (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./ Dobbs Ferry), who did not allow an earned run in five and one-third innings to even his record at 3-3. MSOE left fielder Justin Gross went 4-for-4 in the nightcap. |
