May 10, 2006 NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- North Central College first baseman Geoff Pignatiello collected three hits and scored three times as the host Cardinals defeated the University of Chicago baseball team 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon. Junior right-hander Dan Cozzi (Park Ridge, Ill./ St. Ignatius) pitched the first four innings for the Maroons. He allowed eight hits and two runs, while fanning six without issuing a walk. Three Chicago relievers were tagged for four runs over the game's final four frames. Freshman first baseman Scott Hofer (San Marino, Calif./ Flintridge Prep) and freshman right fielder Travis Blane (Valparaiso, Ind./ Valparaiso) each had two hits in four at-bats for the Maroons. North Central (13-26) used seven pitchers to gain a season series split with Chicago (17-17), which defeated the Cardinals 10-6 back on March 31. |
