CRESTWOOD, Ill. -- Senior pitcher Dan Yeksigian (Downers Grove, Ill./ Benet) and junior hurler Dan Cozzi (Park Ridge, Ill./ St. Ignatius) posted complete game victories as the University of Chicago baseball team won both halves of a doubleheader Friday at Robert Morris College.
Yeksigian (5-1) struck out six en route to his fourth complete game in six starts as the Maroons took game one 15-2. With the victory -- the 17th of his career -- Yeksigian moved into a tie for second place on the Chicago all-time chart.
Senior second baseman Matt Assad (Gurnee, Ill./ Carmel) and junior third baseman Allen Cooper (Newburyport, Mass./ Governor Dummer) each collected three RBIs in the opening contest, while sophomore left fielder Mike Serio (Antioch, Ill./ Carmel) went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in.
In the second game Cozzi (2-2) scattered five hits as he notched his first career shutout in an 11-0 Chicago victory.
Freshman catcher Scott Hofer (San Marino, Calif./ Flintridge) delivered the key blow with a bases-clearing double. Senior designated hitter Ryan Denton (Worth, Ill./ Marist) went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Chicago (9-13) extended its winning streak to a season-best three games. In those three victories, the Maroons have plated 43 runs (14.3 per game).
