January 13, 2006 CHICAGO -- Led by senior defensive lineman Rob Tamillow (Oak Park, Ill./ Fenwick), three University of Chicago football players have been named All-Americans by Football Gazette. Tamillow was selected to the All-America second team, while senior cornerback Colin Carrier (Glen Ellyn, Ill./ Benet Academy) and senior center Phil Pengiel (Hinsdale, Ill./ Hinsdale South) earned honorable mention accolades. The 2005 University Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year and an Aztec Bowl selection, Tamillow ranked second in the nation in tackles-for-loss per game (2.5) and fifth in sacks per game (1.2). He posted school records with 24 tackles-for-loss and 12 sacks to lead a Chicago defense that ranked among the NCAA Division III top 15 in four categories. Carrier led the NCAA Division III in interceptions per game as he picked off 10 passes in nine contests. He finished his career holding Chicago modern era records for most interceptions in a game (3), season (10), and career (15). He also saw action as a wide receiver, catching 18 passes with four touchdown receptions. Pengiel, who was an All-UAA first team selection, helped lead a Chicago offensive unit which averaged more than 375 yards and 25 points per game during the 2005 campaign. Chicago captured its third UAA championship (1998, 2000, 2005) with a 3-0 mark in league play this past season. After starting the season 0-4, the Maroons won their final five games by a combined score of 173-23 en route to their first winning campaign since 2001. |
