Maroons Fall at DePauw

Greencastle, Ind. -- DePauw University's Jeremiah Marks rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns as the host Tigers defeated the University of Chicago football team 33-9 Saturday at Blackstock Stadium.

Marks accounted for the only scoring of the first half when he capped a 15-play, 83-yard drive with a 2-yard plunge at the 11:54 mark of the second quarter. He then scored on another 2-yard run as the Tigers moved 61 yards on their first possession of the second half.

DePauw (2-1) increased its lead to 19-0 on a 48-yard run by Dorrius Ford with 9:56 remaining in the third quarter.

Chicago (0-4) got on the board at the 1:59 mark of the third stanza on a 32-yard field goal by senior Mike Morzenti (Safety Harbor, Fla./ Palm Harbor).

The Maroons cut the gap to 19-9 with 11:53 left in the contest when junior quarterback Matt Rinklin (New York, N.Y./ Fordham Prep) and senior wideout Colin Carrier (Glen Ellyn, Ill./ Benet Academy) connected on a 5-yard touchdown pass to conclude a six-play, 71-yard drive.

DePauw sealed the win with a pair of late touchdowns, a 5-yard run by Ross Wiethoff at the 6:32 mark and a 15-yard scamper by Daniel Stauffer with 1:48 left on the clock.

Chicago turned the ball over on its last three possessions and had four turnovers on the afternoon.

DePauw, which held the ball for 36:17, finished the day with 316 yards on the ground. Ford gained 90 yards, while Wiethoff totaled 71 in addition to completing 10 of 16 passes for 122 yards with three interceptions.

Rinklin was 16-of-35 for 233 yards and a touchdown with one interception. Junior wide receiver Micah Dawson (Grand Junction, Colo./ Central) posted his third consecutive 100-yard effort with 147 yards on five catches.
