Maroons Rout Eureka 55-7 in Season Finale

CHICAGO -- Junior running back Nick Schey (Barrington, Ill./ St. Viator) rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns as the University of Chicago football team defeated Eureka College 55-7 in the season finale for both teams Saturday at Stagg Field.

Schey scored on runs of 2, 23, and 27 yards as Chicago (5-4) closed out its season with its fifth consecutive victory, matching the longest winning streak of the school's modern football era. Chicago also posted its first winning season since 2001 and matched its highest modern era single-game scoring output in the victory.

Junior signal caller Matt Rinklin (New York, N.Y./ Fordham Prep) threw three touchdown passes and ran for another. He completed 18 of 24 attempts for 280 yards without an interception. Junior wideout Micah Dawson (Grand Junction, Colo./ Central) caught seven passes for 126 yards, including a 63-yard touchdown.

Eureka (1-9) scored the first points of the game when Shaun Manning connected with Chris Carr from 43 yards out on the Red Devils' first possession.

Chicago then scored touchdowns on five of its next six drives. The Maroons tied the game on a 13-yard scramble by Rinklin, then went ahead 14-7 on an 8-yard strike from Rinklin to sophomore receiver Mike Albian (Darien, Ill./ Montini) with 2:16 to play in the opening stanza.

Schey's 2-yard touchdown plunge gave Chicago a 21-7 lead with 11:59 left in the second period. Just 1:50 later, Rinklin hooked up with Dawson on a 63-yard pass play to make the score 27-7.

Schey closed out first half scoring with a 23-yard run at the 6:40 mark of the second quarter to give Chicago a 34-7 advantage at the intermission.

Schey, who turned in his fourth 100-yard effort of the year, provided the only scoring of the third quarter with a 27-yard touchdown run at the 7:44 mark.

Chicago added a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns, first on a 20-yard pass from Rinklin to senior wide receiver Brandon Igyarto (Inverness, Ill./ Fremd) on the opening play of the period, and on a 3-yard run by freshman running back Chuck Little (Plano, Texas/ St. Mark's) with 5:25 remaining. Little finished with 88 yards on 14 carries.

Chicago amassed 549 yards of total offense to just 108 for the Red Devils. Senior defensive tackle Rob Tamillow (Oak Park, Ill./ Fenwick) led the Maroons defensive effort with eight tackles, including five for loss with a pair of sacks.
