January 18, 2006 CHICAGO -- Three University of Chicago winter sport athletes have been recognized as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week, the conference announced today. Senior Jessica Winter (Wheaton, Ill./ Wheaton-Warrenville South) and junior Emil Bojanov (Sofia, Bulgaria/ Dulaney, Md.) were selected in women's and men's indoor track & field, respectively, and junior Andrew Bribriesco (Bettendorf, Iowa/ Bettendorf) was chosen in wrestling. Winter won the mile
run competition at the Jan. 14 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational
with a time of 5:07.93 en route to garnering her second UAA Athlete of
the Week award in as many weeks and the 12th of her career. Winter has
received UAA weekly honors seven times in cross country, three times in
indoor track & field, and twice in outdoor track & field. Bojanov took top honors in the the mile run this past Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational, posting a time of 4:20.69. He received his second straight UAA Athlete of the Week award and the third of his career. He was recognized in cross country this fall. Bribriesco captured
the 141-pound weight class at the Jan. 13-14 North Central College Invitational.
Seeded fourth in the weight class, Bribriesco won all four of his bouts,
including a 15-14 decision over the top seed from of the University of
Wisconsin-Platteville in the semifinals. He received his first career
UAA weekly award. |
