February 7, 2006 CHICAGO -- University of Chicago sophomores Sasha Deriy (Bolingbrook, Ill./ IMSA) and Zach Rodgers (Nashville, Tenn./ University) have been named the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for men's tennis and men's indoor track & field, respectively. Deriy registered a
2-0 mark at second singles and split two matches at first doubles in helping
the 25th-ranked Maroons post victories over Coe College (4-3) and Cornell
(Iowa) College (6-0) this past Saturday. He received his first UAA Athlete
of the Week award this year and the second of his career. Rodgers competed in four events as the Maroons posted a 3-3-1 mark at the Feb. 4 Chicago Duals. A first-time UAA weekly honoree, Rodgers finished third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.17 seconds), ran a leg on the fourth-place 1,600-meter relay (3:32.92), and placed seventh in both the high jump (1.86 m) and long jump (6.28 m). |
