April 12, 2006 CHICAGO -- University of Chicago senior Teage O'Connor (Thousand Oaks, Calif./ Thousand Oaks) and freshman Vindya Dayananda (Kathmandu, Nepal/ Lincoln School) have been named University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for men's outdoor track & field and women's tennis, respectively. O’Connor posted a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Chicagoland Championships, turning in a time of 9:25.5. He earned his first UAA weekly honor of the year and the second of his career. Dayananda swept four matches at first singles against regionally ranked foes at the Midwest Invitational. Ranked eighth in singles in the Central Region, Dayananda defeated the region’s second, third, 13th, and 15th-ranked players -- winning three of four matches in straight sets -- to improve her season mark to 17-8. She garnered her second UAA Athlete of the Week award of the season. |
