Gaby Fernandez Named UAA Athlete of the Week

Chicago -- University of Chicago sophomore linebacker Gaby Fernandez (Miami, Fla./ Columbus) has been selected as the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for football (defense), the conference announced today.

Fernandez made a career-high 13 tackles this past Saturday in Chicago's 21-17 loss to Elmhurst College, which entered the contest ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III in scoring offense with 53.5 points per game.

The 2004 UAA Rookie of the Year, Fernandez currently ranks 27th in the NCAA Division III in tackles per game (12.5).

Fernandez earned his first UAA Athlete of the Week award of the 2005 campaign and the second of his career.
