For Immediate Release Three Maroons Earn UAA Athlete of the Week Honors Chicago -- Three University of Chicago fall sport athletes have been recognized as the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week in their respective sports, the conference announced today. Senior Jessica
Winter (Wheaton, Ill./ Wheaton-Warrenville South) was honored in women's
cross country after posting a fifth-place finish among 334 competitors
at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational at Augustana (Ill.) College this
past Friday. Winter, who collected her second UAA Athlete of the Week
award this season and the eighth of her career, completed the 6,000-meter
race with a time of 21:35 as the Maroons placed second in the 27-team
field. Junior Emil Bojanov (Sofia, Bulgaria/ Dulaney, Md.) garnered men's cross country accolades on the basis of his 14th-place finish among 394 runners at the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational. A first-time UAA Athlete of the Week recipient, Bojanov clocked a time of 25:09 on the 8,000-meter course. Junior running back Nick Schey (Barrington, Ill./ St. Viator) was selected as the league's top offensive performer in football. Schey, who received his first-ever UAA Athlete of the Week award, gained 99 yards on 17 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns in a 20-13 loss at Illinois Wesleyan University last Saturday. |
