For Immediate Release Five Maroons Garner UAA Athlete of the Week Honors Chicago -- Five University of Chicago fall sport athletes have been recognized as the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week in their respective sports, the conference announced today Senior cornerback Colin Carrier (Glen Ellyn, Ill./ Benet Academy) and junior running back Nick Schey (Barrington, Ill./ St. Viator) were honored in football (defense, offense); junior goalkeeper Keith Crum (Holland, Pa./ Council Rock South) and freshman forward Eric Floyd (McMurray, Pa./ Peters) were chosen in men's soccer (defense, offense), and senior forward Renee Neuner (Haslett, Mich./ Haslett) was selected in women's soccer (offense). Carrier intercepted two passes as the Maroons defeated Washington (Mo.) University 27-0 this past Saturday to take possession of the Founders Trophy for the first time since 2000. A first-time UAA Athlete of the Week honoree, Carrier also collected five solo tackles as the Maroons limited the host Bears to just 187 yards of total offense. Schey rushed for 132 yards and caught a touchdown pass a week ago. He averaged 5.1 yards on 26 carries and scored on a 67-yard touchdown reception on the Maroons' first drive of the second half. Schey was recognized as the UAA's top offensive performer for the second time in the past three weeks. Crum made a season-high eight saves as Chicago shut out sixth-ranked Emory University 4-0 on Saturday. In his first outing of the week four days earlier, he stopped two shots in 28 minutes of action in a 7-1 win over Beloit College. Crum received UAA weekly accolades for the first time in 2005 and for the second time during his career. Floyd scored three goals in the Maroons' two victories last week en route to garnering his first-ever UAA weekly honor. After scoring the game's first goal against Beloit, he tallied the first and third goals in the victory over Emory. Neuner scored four goals -- including the game-winner in each match -- as Chicago defeated two nationally-ranked opponents. She scored the first three goals in a 4-0 win over 19th-ranked Calvin College last Tuesday, before tallying the second and deciding goal in a 3-1 win over 22nd-ranked Emory. Neuner earned her first UAA Athlete of the Week award this season and the sixth of her career. |
