November 8, 2005 CHICAGO -- Three University of Chicago fall sport athletes have been recognized as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week, the conference announced today. Senior cornerback/wideout Colin Carrier (Glen Ellyn, Ill./ Benet Academy) and junior running back Nick Schey (Barrington, Ill./ St. Viator) were selected in football, while sophomore midfielder Stuart Phelps (Helena, Mont./ Capital) was chosen in men's soccer. Carrier had a school record three interceptions, including two inside his team's 10-yard line, as the Maroons captured the 2005 UAA Championship with a 14-7 win over Case Western Reserve University. Carrier, who earned UAA weekly accolades for the second time this year, also established Chicago modern era records for most picks in a season (10) and career (15) in the victory. Schey collected his third UAA player of the week award of the season after rushing for 211 yards and a touchdown in Chicago's UAA title-clinching win over Case. He averaged 5.3 yards on 40 attempts and scored on a 40-yard run in the opening quarter. Phelps, a first-time UAA Athlete of the Week honoree, scored the first two goals of the match as the Maroons posted a 3-0 victory over Washington (Mo.) University in the Association finale for both teams. |
