Chicago Nets Four UAA Athletes of the Week

CHICAGO -- Four University of Chicago fall and winter sport athletes have been selected as the University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week in their respective sports, the conference announced today.

Senior Jessica Winter (Wheaton, Ill./ Wheaton-Warrenville South) was honored for the fourth time this season in women's cross country. She was the runner-up at the Midwest Region Championship this past Saturday, completing the 6,000-meter course in a time of 21:11 to earn an individual berth for the NCAA Division III Championship at Ohio Wesleyan University on Nov. 19. During her career, Winter has received UAA Athlete of the Week accolades seven times in cross country, twice in outdoor track & field, and once in indoor track & field

Senior forward Renee Neuner (Haslett, Mich./ Haslett) scored a pair of second-half goals to lead the Maroons to a 3-0 win over Loras College in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship on Nov. 13. Neuner earned her second UAA weekly award of the season and the seventh of her career.

Junior quarterback Matt Rinklin (New York, N.Y./ Fordham Prep) threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as the Maroons defeated Eureka College 55-7 in their season finale. The UAA offensive player of the week for the second time this year, Rinklin completed 18 of 24 passes for 280 yards without an interception.

Freshman Shane Carlson (Houston, Texas/ Memorial) won two individual events and established a pair of Chicago men's swimming records as the Maroons took top honors in their eight-team Maroon Invitational. Carlson won the 500-yard (4:49.32) and 1,650-yard (16:28.89 - school record) freestyle, and placed second in the 400-yard individual medley (4:15.92 - school record).
