January 22, 2006 CHICAGO -- New York University's Michael DeCorso and Jason Boone posted double-doubles as the 24th-ranked Violets defeated the host University of Chicago 67-58 in University Athletic Association men's basketball action Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center. DeCorso finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Boone collected 14 points and 13 boards. NYU (14-2 overall, 3-2 UAA) led 26-22 at the half and scored the first eight points of the second stanza to take a 34-22 lead with 16:20 remaining. Chicago (9-7, 2-3) cut the NYU lead to 39-36 on a basket by sophomore Matt Corning (Wauconda, Ill./ Mundelein) with 11:08 to go, but the Violets answered with a 12-4 run to increase their advantage to 51-40 at the 7:22 mark. A jumper by senior Clay Carmody (Fullerton, Calif./ Sunny Hills) with 2:38 left got the Maroons within three points, 54-51, but the Violets would outscore Chicago 13-7 the rest of the way. Junior Jesse Meyer (Omaha, Neb./ Bellevue West) led the Maroons with 15 points, while Carmody and junior Brandon Woodhead (Lincoln, Neb./ East) added 13 and 11, respectively. Jared Kildare handed out a game-high 10 assists for NYU. |
