December 12, 2005 CHICAGO -- Three members of the University of Chicago men's soccer team have been named to the All-North Central Region Team in balloting conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Senior midfielder Giordano Palloni (Madison, Wis./ West) and senior defender Peter Schlaefer (Atlantic Beach, N.C./ Science & Math) earned selection to the all-region first team, while senior midfielder Joe Frontczak (Creve Coeur, Mo./ Chaminade) garnered third team recognition. Palloni netted four goals and a team-high eight assists during the 2005 campaign. His eight assists matched the second-highest season output in school history. Schlaefer led a Chicago defense that limited opponents to 18 goals in 20 contests with nine shutouts. He also contributed one goal and two assists. Frontczak led the Maroons with 10 goals to become the eighth Chicago player, and the first since 2002, to reach that milestone. Ranked 20th in the
final poll of the 2005 season, Chicago posted a 14-5-1 overall record
and reached the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament. |
