Maroons Place Six on All-UAA Team

CHICAGO -- Led by first-team selections senior midfielder Giordano Palloni (Madison, Wis./ West) and senior defender Peter Schlaefer (Atlantic Beach, N.C./ Science & Math), six members of the University of Chicago men's soccer team have been named to the 2005 All-University Athletic Association team, the conference announced today.

Palloni led the Maroons with eight assists in 18 regular season contests. An honorable mention All-UAA pick a year ago, he also added three goals to give him 14 points, good for fourth on the club.

Schlaefer anchored a Chicago defensive corps that allowed just 15 goals in 18 games with nine shutouts. He also contributed offensively with a goal and two assists.

Senior forward Ryan Ehle (Holland, Ohio/ St. John's Jesuit) and junior goalkeeper Keith Crum (Holland, Pa./ Council Rock South) garnered All-UAA second team recognition.

Ehle was Chicago's second-leading scorer with eight goals and four assists for 20 points. He led the team with four game-winning goals, two of which came in Association play.

Crum, who garnered honorable mention recognition last year, started all 18 regular season matches and posted a 0.86 goals against average with six shutouts.

Senior midfielder Joe Frontczak (Creve Coeur, Mo./ Chaminade) and senior forward Brian Standerfer (Winston-Salem, NC/ West Forsyth) were cited as honorable mention selections.

Frontczak tallied a team-high 10 goals to become the first Chicago player to reach that milestone since the 2002 campaign. Standerfer collected seven assists and scored one goal to give him nine points on the year.

Chicago tied for second place in the UAA with a 5-2 mark in league play. The Maroons posted a 13-5 overall mark during the regular season and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship tournament.
