For Immediate Release Rochester Defeats Chicago in O.T. in Key UAA Clash Chicago -- Jeremy Mann scored early in the first overtime period to lift the fifth-ranked University of Rochester to a 2-1 victory over the 19th-ranked University of Chicago in a battle for first place in the University Athletic Association standings Friday at Stagg Field. The win moves Rochester (11-0 overall, 3-0 UAA) into sole possession of first place in the UAA. Mann's goal came 2:05 seconds into the first extra period off assists from Gary Stom and Patrick Ripp. Chicago (9-3, 2-1) took an early lead when senior defender Peter Schlaefer (Atlantic Beach, N.C./ Science & Math) fed a long pass to senior midfielder Giordano Palloni (Madison, Wis./ West), who tallied his third goal of the season at the 7:59 mark. The Maroons maintained the lead until Rochester's Tyler Green scored at 68:44 from Nick Mikolenko. The Yellowjackets outshot the Maroons 16-9, including a 12-5 edge in the second half. With its first overtime setback in 13 games dating back to the 2002 campaign, Chicago's three-game winning streak came to an end. |
