Rochester Defeats Chicago in O.T. in Key UAA Clash

Chicago -- Jeremy Mann scored early in the first overtime period to lift the fifth-ranked University of Rochester to a 2-1 victory over the 19th-ranked University of Chicago in a battle for first place in the University Athletic Association standings Friday at Stagg Field.

The win moves Rochester (11-0 overall, 3-0 UAA) into sole possession of first place in the UAA.

Mann's goal came 2:05 seconds into the first extra period off assists from Gary Stom and Patrick Ripp.

Chicago (9-3, 2-1) took an early lead when senior defender Peter Schlaefer (Atlantic Beach, N.C./ Science & Math) fed a long pass to senior midfielder Giordano Palloni (Madison, Wis./ West), who tallied his third goal of the season at the 7:59 mark.

The Maroons maintained the lead until Rochester's Tyler Green scored at 68:44 from Nick Mikolenko.

The Yellowjackets outshot the Maroons 16-9, including a 12-5 edge in the second half.

With its first overtime setback in 13 games dating back to the 2002 campaign, Chicago's three-game winning streak came to an end.
