January 14, 2006 CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago men's swimming & diving team captured second place at the eight-team Chicago Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool. Freshman Shane Carlson (Houston, Texas/ Memorial) won the 500-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 4:42.15 and placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:13.31). Junior James Viccaro (Riverside, Ill./ Riverside-Brookfield) tied for first place in the 50-yard freestyle (22.24 seconds). Sophomores Zachary Ergish (Moreno Valley, Calif./ Valley View) and Andrew Kent (Barcelona, Venezuela/ CIPLC) notched runner-up finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.77) and 200-yard freestyle (1:47.76), respectively. Junior Bucky Banks (Plant City, Fla./ Home school) and sophomore Chris Whaley (Helena, Mont./ Helena) placed third in the 100-yard freestyle (49.13 seconds) and 200-yard butterfly (2:02.74), respectively. Olivet College won the event with 1325.5 points, while the Maroons were next with 1047.5. |
