For Immediate Release Six Maroons to Compete at ITA Regional Chicago -- Returning All-American senior Ward Bortz (Brookfield, Wis./ Marquette) is among six University of Chicago men's tennis players scheduled to participate in the ITA Central Regional at DePauw University beginning on Friday, Sept. 23. Bortz, who advanced to the title match at last year's ITA regional, is seeded second at singles behind Washington (Mo.) University's Ari Rosenthal. He finished the season with a record of 26-10. In doubles competition, Bortz and sophomore Sasha Deriy (Bolingbrook, Ill./ IMSA) are the top-seeded tandem. The duo notched a 16-9 record a year ago. Deriy will also compete in singles competition along with junior Vivek Venkataraman (Columbus, Ohio/ Columbus Academy), sophomores Joseph Tchan (Woodland Hills, Calif./ Taft) and Bharath Sithian (Staten Island, N.Y./ Staten Island Academy), and freshman Alex Winney (Yorktown, Ind./ Yorktown). Chicago will also feature doubles teams of Sithian and Venkataraman, and Tchan and Winney. |
