Maroons Win Two of Three at Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio -- The 25th-ranked University of Chicago men's tennis team posted a 2-1 record against regionally- and nationally-ranked opponents Saturday and Sunday at Kenyon College.

Chicago opened the weekend Saturday with a 4-2 win over 22nd-ranked Carnegie Mellon University. The Maroons won three of five singles matches and two of three doubles contests.

The Maroons then dropped a 4-2 decision to 28th-ranked Kenyon. In a matchup of regionally-ranked singles players, eighth-ranked Chicago senior Ward Bortz (Brookfield, Wis./ Marquette) defeated #16 Sean Stewart 6-4, 6-4.

Chicago concluded the weekend Sunday with a 4-1 win over Denison University, which began the day as the 11th-ranked team in the region. The Maroons swept four singles matches, including a 6-1, 6-0 win by Bortz over the region's 14th-ranked player, Jordan Buehler.

The Maroons now stand at 5-1 in dual match competition.
