April 1, 2006 ELMHURST, Ill. -- Three University of Chicago men's track & field athletes won their respective events as the Maroons opened their 2006 outdoor season with a fifth-place finish at the 11-team Elmhurst College Invitational on Saturday. Senior Teage O'Connor (Thousand Oaks, Calif./ Thousand Oaks) took top honors in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:35.40, which was approximately 30 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Junior Emil Bojanov (Sofia, Bulgaria/ Dulaney, Md.) and sophomore Luke Sandberg (St. Louis, Mo./ Burroughs) won the 5000-meter run (15:09.10) and pole vault (4.12 m), respectively. Chicago collected 82 points in the team standings. The host Bluejays won the event with 150.75 points. |
