March 4, 2006 CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago men's track & field team captured fourth place at the 2006 University Athletic Association Indoor Championship held Friday and Saturday at Chicago's Henry Crown Field House. Seven Chicago competitors finished among the top three in their respective events to garner All-Association accolades. Junior Emil Bojanov (Sofia, Bulgaria/ Dulaney, Md.) took top honors in the mile run competition with a time of 4:16.68. He also notched a fifth-place showing in the 3,000-meter run (8:48.08). Sophomore Luke Sandberg (St. Louis, Mo./ Burroughs) was the runner-up in the pole vault, as he cleared a height of 4.25 meters. Junior Neil Weijer (New Providence, N.J./ New Providence) and sophomore Zach Rodgers (Nashville, Tenn./ University) each turned in third-place finishes. Weijer recorded a distance of 15.13 meters in the weight throw, while Rodgers posted a 1.86-meter leap in the high jump. Rodgers also placed fourth in the long jump (6.46 m), fifth in the triple jump (12.83 m), and sixth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.27 seconds). In relay competition, the Chicago 1,600-meter quartet of Rodgers, junior Matt Kolbe (Sacramento, Calif./ Truckee), and freshmen John Eric Humphries (Eagle River, Alaska/ Chugiak) and Herman Reeves (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) claimed second place with a time of 3:28.27. (Thousand Oaks, Calif./ Thousand Oaks) turned in a pair of top-five
efforts, as he placed fourth in the 3,000-meter run (8:46.75) and fifth
in the 5,000-meter run (15:21.50). Washington (Mo.) University won the team title with 136 points, while Carnegie Mellon University and Brandeis University finished second (97) and third (81), respectively. Chicago collected 66 points. |
