April 23, 2006 CLEVELAND -- The University of Chicago men's outdoor track & field team captured third place at the 2006 University Athletic Association Championship held Saturday and Sunday at Case Western Reserve University. Six Chicago competitors finished among the top three in their respective events to garner All-Association recognition. Junior Emil Bojanov (Sofia, Bulgaria/ Dulaney, Md.) took top honors in the 800-meter run (1:55.45) and placed third in the 1,500-meter run with an NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying time of 3:54.86. Sophomore Zach Rodgers (Nashville, Tenn./ University) was the runner-up in the long jump (6.58 m) and was the third-place performer in the triple jump (13.26 m). Three other Maroons notched second-place finishes: senior Teage O'Connor (Thousand Oaks, Calif./ Thousand Oaks) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:27.28), sophomore Luke Sandberg (St. Louis, Mo./ Burroughs) in the pole vault (4.25 m), and freshman John Eric Humphries (Eagle River, Alaska/ Chugiak) in the 400-meter dash (51.13 seconds). Sophomore John Anderson (Downers Grove, Ill./ North) captured third place in the discus throw with a mark of 41.89 meters. Washington (Mo.) University won the team title with 217 points, while Carnegie Mellon University and Chicago finished second (166.5) and third (119.5), respectively. |
