Maroons Sweep Hope 2-0, 3-0

CHICAGO -- Junior pitcher Petra Wade (Batavia, Ill./ Batavia) posted back-to-back shutouts, and sophomore catcher Vanessa Pineros (Mukilteo, Wash./ Kamiak) drove in three runs as the University of Chicago softball team swept a twinbill from Hope College Saturday at Stagg Field.

Wade allowed just three hits without a walk and fanned eight in a 2-0 Chicago victory in the opener.

Sophomore left fielder Dominique Marshall (Columbus, Ohio/ Columbus Girls) drove in the only run the Maroons would need with an RBI single in the first inning to score Pineros, who led off with a walk. Pineros then smashed a run-scoring double in the bottom of the second to round out the scoring.

In game two, Pineros delivered RBI singles in the third and fourth innings as the Maroons blanked Hope 3-0 to notch their second doubleheader sweep of the year. Junior shortstop Jessica Mayhew (Plymouth, N.H./ Plymouth) went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the nightcap.

Wade scattered five hits with just one walk en route to her fourth shutout of the year in Saturday's second game. She raised her record to 15-4, making her only the third pitcher in the program's history to record 15 or more victories in a season.

Pineros finished the day 4-for-6 with two runs scored and three driven in.

Chicago improved its record to 16-10, while Hope slipped to 21-11.

Kylee Brouwer collected three hits on the day for the Flying Dutch, who entered the afternoon sporting a nine-game winning streak.
