April 15, 2006 OSHKOSH, Wis. -- The University of Chicago softball team split a doubleheader Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, winning the first game 1-0 before falling 3-2 in the second contest. Junior pitcher Petra Wade (Batavia, Ill./ Batavia) scattered five hits and fanned nine in the opener to raise her record to 12-3. The shutout was her second of the year. Chicago scored the only run of the game when senior designated hitter Kate Rhodes (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./ Detroit Country Day) singled to drive in junior third baseman Kayti Fuhr (Taylor Ridge, Ill./ Rockridge) with two outs in the top of the fourth inning. Fuhr led off the inning with a base hit. In the nightcap, the host Titans took advantage of four Chicago errors to plate three unearned runs against junior pitcher Lauren Hula (East Lansing, Mich./ East Lansing) in the game's first four innings. Hula (0-4) allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out three. UW-Oshkosh's (18-12) Amy Sullivan and Ronessa Stampfli combined on the victory. Sullivan allowed two hits in the first four frames to earn the victory before Stampfli tossed three scoreless innings to record the save. |
