Post 1-3 Mark at Elmhurst Invite
Elmhurst, Ill.
-- The University of Chicago volleyball team went 1-3 at the season-opening
Elmhurst College Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Maroons defeated
Blackburn College (3-1) and fell to 20th-ranked University of Wisconsin-River
Falls (3-2), tournament champion Carthage College (3-1), and the College
of St. Scholastica (3-1).
#20 UW-River
Falls def. Chicago 25-30, 20-30, 32-30, 30-10, 15-9
Sophomore right-side hitter Colette Hausoul (New Buffalo, Mich./
Marquette) hit .471 (9-1-17) and led the Maroons with seven blocks
(2-5) against 20th-ranked UW-River Falls. Sophomore middle hitter Koryn
Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) collected six blocks (3-3).
Carthage def.
Chicago 30-27, 30-8, 19-30, 30-14
Freshman outside hitter Katie Volzer (North Canton, Ohio/ Lake)
hit a team-high 10 kills with a .400 percentage (10-0-25). Sophomore
outside hitter Allison Mell (Bartlett, Tenn./ Briarcrest Christian)
led Chicago with 12 digs and three aces.

Blackburn 30-18, 30-9, 30-14
Kendall hit eight kills in 12 attempts (8-1-12, .583) to go along
with six blocks, while Volzer hit a team-leading nine kills with a .421
percentage (9-1-19) as the Maroons won their first match of the year.
St. Scholastica
def. Chicago 33-31, 22-30, 30-25, 30-19
Volzer clubbed 15 kills, and freshman setter Nikki Boddicker
(Encino, Calif./ Buckley School) collected 37 assists. Kendall and
freshman outside hitter Kerry Dornfeld (Cary, Ill./ Cary) each
hit eight kills and combined to post a .552 percentage (16-0-29).
