Maroons Post 2-2 Mark at Gargoyle Classic

Chicago -- Sophomore middle hitter Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) earned all-tournament team honors as the University of Chicago volleyball team split four matches at its 2005 Gargoyle Classic Friday and Saturday at the Ratner Athletics Center.

In Friday's action, the Maroons defeated Macalester College 3-0 and fell to Monmouth College 3-0. On Saturday, Chicago posted a 3-0 win over Augsburg College before dropping a 3-1 decision to Augustana (Ill.) College in the day's final event.

Chicago def. Macalester 30-22, 30-22, 30-25
Senior outside hitter Katie Meinhover (Ottertail, Minn./ Perham) hit a season-high 14 kills as the Maroons swept Macalester. Meinhover recorded a .385 hitting percentage (14-4-26) and added four service aces. Senior right side hitter Erica Pettke (Sussex, Wis./ Divine Savior Holy Angels) hit nine kills to go along with seven digs, five aces, and three blocks.

Monmouth def. Chicago 30-17, 30-20, 30-24
Pettke and sophomore middle hitter Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) led the Maroons with seven kills each in the three-game loss. Kendall also contributed three blocks.

Chicago def. Augsburg 30-16, 30-16, 30-14
Meinhover led the Maroons with 10 kills, and Kendall collected five blocks while hitting .538 (7-0-13). Kendall and freshman outside hitter Katie Given (Atherton, Calif./ Castilleja School) each hit seven kills.

Augustana (Ill.) def. Chicago 30-28, 29-31, 31-29, 30-27
Pettke and Kendall hit 16 and 14 kills, respectively, while Meinhover added 10 as the Maroons dropped a four-game decision in the day's final match. Junior setter Nikki Sindy (Granger, Ind./ Penn) collected 47 assists, four aces, and seven digs.
