Maroons Win Three of Four at UAA Round Robin

ST. LOUIS -- The University of Chicago volleyball team posted a 3-1 mark at the University Athletic Association Round Robin at Washington (Mo.) University on Saturday and Sunday. Junior setter Nikki Sindy (Granger, Ind./ Penn) collected 127 assists on the weekend, while sophomore middle hitter Koryn Kendall (Napa, Calif./ Vintage) turned in 38 kills and 15 blocks.

Chicago def. Case 30-28, 30-27, 30-16
Senior right side hitter Erica Pettke (Sussex, Wis./ Divine Savior Holy Angels) and sophomore outside hitter Allison Mell (Bartlett, Tenn./ Briarcrest Christian) each hit 10 kills as the Maroons swept Case. Sindy collected 35 assists and a pair of aces, while Kendall contributed five blocks.

#4 NYU def. Chicago 30-22, 30-19, 30-27
Kendall hit .778 (7-0-9), and freshman middle hitter Katie Volzer (North Canton, Ohio/ Lake) hit .389 (7-0-18) in a three-game loss to the fourth-ranked Violets.

Chicago def. Brandeis 30-25, 25-30, 30-19, 30-23
Four players hit double-digit kills in a four-game win over Brandeis: senior outside hitter Katie Meinhover (Ottertail, Minn./ Perham) with 12, Volzer and Kendall with 11, and Pettke with 10. Pettke also served four aces.

Chicago def. Rochester 30-23, 30-25, 30-15
Sindy served five aces and collected 37 assists as the Maroons closed out the weekend with a three-game win. Pettke and Kendall each smashed 14 kills.

Chicago (11-15 overall, 3-4 UAA) has earned the fifth seed at the 2005 UAA Championship to be held at Brandeis on Nov. 4-5.
