February 28, 2006 CHICAGO -- Led by first-team selection sophomore Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School), four University of Chicago women's basketball players have been selected to the 2005-06 All-University Athletic Association team, the conference announced today. In addition to Mojidi's placement on the All-Association first team, senior Susie Gutowski (Northampton, Mass./ Northampton) and junior Korry Schwanz (Menominee, Mich./ Menominee) were chosen to the second team. Freshman Alex Leach (Gurnee, Ill./ Warren) received honorable mention recognition. Mojidi led the Maroons in scoring (14.5) and steals (50), while recording the team's second-highest field goal percentage (.491). She ranked fourth in the UAA in scoring and steals and stood fifth in field goal percentage. An honorable mention pick a year ago, Mojidi scored in double figures in 20 of 25 contests with five 20-point performances. She capped the season with a career-high 26-point effort in the Maroons' season finale against Washington (Mo.) University. A four-time All-UAA honoree, Gutowski was the Maroons' second-leading scorer (12.0) and third-leading rebounder (5.9). Gutowski, who set the Chicago all-time record for most free throws made (297), concluded her career in third place on the school's scoring chart with 1,180 points. Schwanz earned selection to the All-UAA team for the third time in as many years after leading the UAA in three-point field goal percentage (.469) and ranking fourth in three-point field goals per game (1.80). She connected on 45 of 96 attempts from behind the arc. Chicago's third-leading scorer with 11.9 points per contest, Schwanz shot 93.6% from the foul line, hitting 44 of 47 attempts. In her debut campaign, Leach averaged 7.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. On Feb. 17, she scored a game-high 18 points as the Maroons won at New York University (61-56) for the first time in 19 tries since 1987-88. Chicago posted a 17-8 overall record this past season, giving the Maroons their most victories in 11 years. The Maroons tied for fifth place in the UAA with a 6-8 mark in league play. The top four Association teams earned bids to the 2006 NCAA Division III tournament. |
