February 19, 2006 WALTHAM, Mass. -- Jaime Capra's three-point basket in the game's final 90 seconds helped propel 12th-ranked Brandeis University past the University of Chicago 65-62 in University Athletic Association women's basketball action Sunday at Auerbach Arena. Capra sunk her second three-pointer of the day with 1:27 left in the game to snap a 60-60 tie and put Brandeis (18-4 overall, 9-4 UAA) ahead to stay. She finished with 11 points. Junior Korry Schwanz (Menominee, Mich./ Menominee) hit a pair of foul shots at the 1:11 mark to pull Chicago (17-7, 6-7) within a point, 63-62. Schwanz led the Maroons with 17 points and was 6-for-6 from the free throw line to increase her season percentage to .936 (44-for-47). Alison Chase sealed the win for the Judges when she hit two free throws with 16 seconds remaining. Chicago trailed 34-19 at the half and was down 46-34 with 12:57 left in the game. The Maroons tied the contest at 54-54 when sophomore Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) hit a pair of free throws at the 4:20 mark. Mojidi scored 15 points and collected five steals on the day. Caitlin Malcolm, who led all scorers with 24 points, scored back-to-back baskets to give the Judges a 58-54 lead with 3:39 left. Malcolm grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, 12 of them on the defensive end. Senior Susie Gutowski (Northampton, Mass./ Northampton) added 11 points for the Maroons, who closed out the season with an 11-3 road record. |
