Gutowski Sets Free Throw Mark in Win at CMU

PITTSBURGH -- Senior Susie Gutowski (Northampton, Mass./ Northampton) scored a game-high 21 points and became the University of Chicago's all-time free throws leader as the 25th-ranked Maroons defeated Carnegie Mellon University 72-50 in University Athletic Association women's basketball play Sunday at CMU.

Gutowski made three free throws to give her 292 for her career, surpassing the previous mark of 289 set by Catherine Fitzgerald from 1989-93.

Led by Gutowski's 21 points and 14 from sophomore Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School), Chicago (15-5 overall, 4-5 UAA) led most of the contest. The Maroons opened up a 39-26 advantage at halftime and led by at least 12 points throughout the second stanza.

Chicago shot 45.8% from the field while holding the Tartans (5-15, 0-9) to a 28.8% mark. The Maroons were also successful on seven of 15 three-point attempts (46.7%), including a 3-for-5 effort from junior Korry Schwanz (Menominee, Mich./ Menominee).

Dava Sommermeyer led Carnegie Mellon with nine points.
