Chicago to Host NCAA Division III Wrestling Regional

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago will play host to the 2006 NCAA Division III Wrestling Great Lakes Regional on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Ratner Athletics Center. Competition will begin at 9:00 a.m., with championship finals slated to get underway at approximately 3:30 p.m.

The 10 weight class champions and 11 wild card selections will earn the opportunity to participate at the NCAA Division III Championship to be held at the College of New Jersey on Mar. 3-4.

Fourteen schools will participate in Saturday's regional, including five nationally-ranked squads: #2 Augsburg College, #8 North Central College, #11 Elmhurst College, #20 Augustana (Ill.) College, and #22 St. John's (Minn.) University.

Augsburg captured the 2005 NCAA Division III title, giving the Auggies their ninth national championship since 1991.

The Great Lakes Regional will also feature 12 wrestlers -- including three returning All-Americans -- who are currently ranked among the top eight in the nation in their respective weight class.

Tickets priced at $5 for adults, $4 students with a valid ID, and $2 for seniors citizens (over 65) and children under 12 will be available for purchase at the Ratner Center on Saturday. University of Chicago students presenting a valid ID will be admitted at no charge; the cost of the those student tickets will be absorbed by the Department of Athletics.
