November 11, 2005 CHICAGO -- Led by senior forward Renee Neuner (Haslett, Mich./ Haslett), four members of the University of Chicago women's soccer team have been selected to the 2005 All-University Athletic Association team, the conference announced today. Neuner was named to the All-UAA first team for the fourth consecutive season. She is the first Chicago player in the 19-year history of the Association to gain that distinction. Senior forward Diana Connett (Noblesville, Ind./ Noblesville) and senior midfielder Jacqui DeLeon (Mission Viejo, Calif./ Trabuco Hills) joined Neuner on the All-Association first team, while senior defender Elise Aiken (Arvada, Colo./ Ralston Valley) garnered second-team recognition. Chicago's career goal-scoring leader with 75 goals in 77 matches, Neuner tallied 15 goals in 18 regular season contests in 2005. She collected six goals in seven UAA matches, including three game-winners. Connett, who was a first-team pick in 2003, led a Chicago defensive corps which held opponents to just 10 goals in 18 matches during the regular season. She also contributed a goal and an assist. DeLeon earned her third straight selection to the All-UAA first team. Chicago's all-time assists leader (25), she collected two goals and six assists in 18 regular season games. A first-team pick a year ago, Aiken played a key role as the Maroons notched 10 regular season shutouts. Her lone goal of the season came in UAA play. Chicago's four All-UAA selections are among a 13-player senior class which has earned four straight NCAA Division III tournament appearances, including a national runner-up performance in 2003. During the past four years the Maroons have compiled a record of 61-11-9 (.808) including a 19-4-5 (.768) mark in conference play. After finishing second in the UAA with a 5-1-1 mark, Chicago (14-2-2 overall) received an at-large bid to the 2005 NCAA Division III Championship. The Maroons host Aurora University in first-round play Saturday, Nov. 12 at Stagg Field. |
