October 25, 2005 CHICAGO -- Senior midfielder Jacqui DeLeon (Mission Viejo, Calif./ Trabuco Hills) assisted on the tying goal and scored the game-winner as the 14th-ranked University of Chicago women's soccer team defeated the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse 2-1 Tuesday at Stagg Field. UW-LaCrosse's (8-6-2) Kris Miller tallied just 6:56 into the match to give the Eagles an early lead. The score remained 1-0 until the 78:22 mark when DeLeon assisted on senior midfielder Monica Michelotti's (Los Alamos, N.M./ Los Alamos) first goal of the season. Senior forward Renee Neuner (Haslett, Mich./ Haslett) also assisted on the goal. DeLeon's assist was the 24th of her career, tying her with Katie Schulte (1992-95) for the Chicago all-time record. DeLeon then scored the winning goal -- her second of the year -- off a corner kick at 86:05 to lift the Maroons (11-2-2) to their third straight victory. UW-LaCrosse netminder Stephanie Harbaugh made nine saves to keep the Eagles in the lead for 71 minutes. Chicago extended its home unbeaten streak to 18 matches (15-0-3). |
