March 2, 2006 CHICAGO -- The NCAA announced today that University of Chicago senior women's soccer player Renee Neuner (Haslett, Mich./ Haslett) has been awarded an NCAA postgraduate scholarship. Neuner was one of 29 female student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions to receive a postgraduate scholarship of $7,500. The 2003 NCAA Division III Player of the Year, Neuner finished her career as Chicago's all-time scoring leader with 78 goals in 82 contests. A four-time All-Central Region and All-University Athletic Association first-team selection, Neuner helped lead the Maroons to four consecutive NCAA Division III tournament appearances -- including a national runner-up finish in 2003 and a third-place performance in 2005 -- and a combined record of 65-12-9 (.808). A gender studies major, Neuner was a three-time UAA All-Academic Recognition Award recipient as well as a two-time ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honoree. Neuner has been actively involved in community service, having served as a rape victim advocate, elementary and middle school tutor, and summer camp counselor since her arrival at Chicago in 2002. To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall grade-point average of 3.200 (on a 4.000 scale) or its equivalent, and must have performed with distinction as a member of the varsity team in the sport in which the student-athlete was nominated. The student-athlete must have behaved, both on and off the field, in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution, and intercollegiate athletics. The student-athlete also must intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student. |
