November 12, 2005 CHICAGO -- Freshman Sarah Laws (Eagleville, Pa./ Methacton) won one event and was the runner-up in another as the University of Chicago women's swimming & diving team posted a third-place finish at the eight-team Maroon Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine Pool. Laws won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.61 seconds and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 25.70 seconds. Two other Chicago swimmers registered second-place efforts: junior Katherine Yang (Palo Alto, Calif./ Gunn) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.44) and freshman Rachel Zarnke (Rockford, Ill./ Boylan) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:23.06). Chicago finished with 554 points in the final team standings. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the meet with 625 points, while Luther College placed second with 593. |
