April 8, 2006 NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- The University of Chicago women's outdoor track & field team placed fourth at the 16-team Chicagoland Championships Friday and Saturday at North Central College. In the long jump competition, sophomore Myra Collins (Converse, Texas/ Antonian) reached a winning distance of 5.35 meters, while junior Trina Ruhland (Golden, Colo./ D’Evelyn) finished fourth with a 5.10-meter leap. Senior Jessica Winter's (Wheaton, Ill./ Wheaton-Warrenville South) time of 4:41.71 in the 1,500-meter run was good for fourth place overall and was less than a second off the NCAA Division III provisional-qualifying standard. Junior Nellie Movtchan (Woodbury, Minn./ Woodbury) also posted a fourth-place effort with a time of 1:07.87 in the 400-meter hurdles. Senior Annie Sanders (Madison, Wis./ West) was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:04.7), while sophomore Appie Hirve (Burke, Va./ Jefferson Science & Math) notched a third-place showing in the triple jump (11.02 m). Northern Illinois University won the meet with 152 points to edge DePaul University's 117.50. Wheaton (Ill.) College led Division III competitors with 81 points, while the Maroons were next with 72. |
