April 1, 2006 ELMHURST, Ill. -- Seven University of Chicago women's track & field competitors posted winning performances as the Maroons opened their 2006 outdoor campaign with a first-place finish at the 12-team Elmhurst College Invitational on Saturday. Seniors Annie Sanders (Madison, Wis./ West) and Jessica Winter (Wheaton, Ill./ Wheaton-Warrenville South) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:08.60) and 800-meter run (2:17.76), respectively. Three juniors notched first-place showings: Alexandra Robertson (Yakima, Wash./ A.C. Davis) in the 1500-meter run (4:50.48), Amanda Slagel (Fairbury, Ill./ Prairie Central) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:14.20), and Trina Ruhland (Golden, Colo./ DEvelyn) in the pole vault (2.75 m). Sophomores Nofi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md./ Bullis School) and Cynthia Lin (State College, Pa./ State College) took top honors in the 200-meter dash (26.47 seconds) and triple jump (10.69 m), respectively. Chicago won the event with 212 points, finishing ahead of host Elmhurst (110) and third-place St. Norbert College (95). |
