Maroons Split Twinbill at MSOE

NEW BERLIN, Wis. -- The University of Chicago baseball team split a doubleheader Saturday at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, dropping the first game 8-5 before taking game two 8-2.

MSOE took advantage of four Chicago errors in the first four innings of the opener as it jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Four of the six runs were unearned off junior starter Dominik Meyer (River Forest, Ill./ Oak Park-River Forest), who exited after 3.2 innings.

Senior third baseman Allen Cooper (Newburyport, Mass./ Governor Dummer) and sophomore right fielder Travis Blane (Valparaiso, Ind./ Valparaiso) delivered RBI singles as part of a three-run sixth, but the Raiders answered with a pair of runs in their half of the inning to seal the win.

MSOE starter Kyle Nelson posted four scoreless innings en route to the victory.

Sophomore right-hander Alex Gallan (Downers Grove, Ill./ South) went the distance in the nightcap to earn his first career victory. He allowed nine hits and three walks over seven frames, while fanning a pair. Of the two runs he yielded, only one was earned.

Chicago (5-8) plated two runs in four straight innings, beginning in the second, as six different players collected an RBI. Freshman catcher Gino Miglio's (Chicago, Ill./ De La Salle) sacrifice fly in the top of the second gave the Maroons the lead for good.

Jordan Gruenke took the loss for the Raiders (1-20). He was tagged for six runs in 3.1 innings.
