Chicago Hosts 2007 Football Banquet
CHICAGO -- Junior linebacker Tony Insalaco (Mokena, Ill./ Lincoln-Way East) was named the team's most valuable player as the University of Chicago hosted its annual football banquet this past Saturday at the Cloister Club Ballroom.
Insalaco led the 2006 Maroons in tackles (61), tackles-for-loss (9.5), sacks (6.5), forced fumbles (4), and fumble recoveries (3) en route to garnering All-University Athletic Association honorable mention accolades for the second straight year.
Senior quarterback Matt Rinklin (New York, N.Y./ Fordham Prep) and senior safety Scott Johnson (Montgomery, Ill./ Oswego) were named the team's Most Outstanding Offensive and Defensive Players, respectively.
The Rookie of the Year Award went to freshman cornerback Chris Leamy (Glen Ellyn, Ill./ Glenbard South), while senior long snapper Eric Meckley (Elkhart, Ind./ Memorial) was recognized as the team's Outstanding Special Teamer.
Finally, junior running back Mike Serio (Antioch, Ill./ Carmel) and freshman guard Stephen Greene (Gallatin, Tenn./ Cypress Bay, Fla.) were named co-Outstanding Scout Team Performers.
