Chicago Shares Top Spot in UAA Coaches Poll
CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago football team was selected as the co-favorite as the University Athletic Association released its 2006 preseason coaches' poll.
The defending UAA champion, Chicago posted a 3-0 mark in conference play a year ago en route to claiming its third Association title since 1998.
Chicago and Washington (Mo.) University each earned two first-place votes and collected 15 points in the preseason coaches' poll. Carnegie Mellon University and Case Western Reserve University tied for third place with four points each. Coaches do not vote for their own teams.
Chicago and Washington have accounted for the previous eight UAA championships. The Maroons host the Bears as part of Homecoming weekend on Oct. 14 at 1:00 p.m.
Last year in St. Louis, Chicago defeated Washington 27-0 to regain the Founders Trophy, which has been awarded to the series winner annually since 1987.
