Order of the "C" Celebrates 104th Spring Dinner
CHICAGO -- The Undergraduate Order of the C at the University of Chicago held its 104th annual awards banquet last night at the International House. Fifteen student-athletes received individual sport and department-wide awards.
Senior football player Ben Potts (Valparaiso, Ind./ Valparaiso) received the Amos Alonzo Stagg Medal, which is presented to the senior male athlete with the best all-around record for athletics, scholarship, and character.
An NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient, Potts was a three-time All-University Athletic Association selection at tackle, a three-time UAA All-Academic Recognition Award honoree, and a two-time ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District pick during his career.
Senior wrestler Andrew Bribriesco (Bettendorf, Iowa/ Bettendorf) received the Mary Jean Mulvaney Scholar-Athlete Award, which is presented to the senior with at least three varsity letters who has compiled the highest junior and senior grade point average.
Team most valuable players included senior Dan Cozzi (Park Ridge, Ill./ St. Ignatius) in baseball; senior Brandon Woodhead (Lincoln, Neb./ East) in basketball; senior Emil Bojanov (Sofia, Bulgaria/ Dulaney, Md.) in cross country; junior Tony Insalaco (Mokena, Ill./ Lincoln-Way East) in football; junior Eric Kirkenmeier (Wheaton, Ill./ Benet) in soccer; sophomore Shane Carlson (Houston, Texas/ Memorial) in swimming & diving; freshman Garrett Brinker (Granger, Ind./ Penn) in tennis; freshman Bill Cheng (Island Lake, Ill./ Wauconda) in indoor track & field; junior Zach Rodgers (Nashville, Tenn./ University) in outdoor track & field; and senior Phil Kruzel (Elmhurst, Ill./ Fenwick) in wrestling.
Senior Tony Zitek (Tampa, Fla./ Plant) received the J. Kyle Anderson Award, which is presented to the senior baseball player who, over his collegiate career, best exemplifies character, leadership, integrity, and dedication to the team while distinguishing himself with his accomplishments on the field.
Senior Drew Adams (Elida, Ohio/ Elida) earned the Joseph A. Stampf Award, which is presented to the senior basketball player whose commitment to high values and integrity is expressed in his relationship with teammates & coaches.
Freshman Steve Saltarelli (Lake Bluff, Ill./ Lake Forest) received the Max Davidson Award, which is given to the tennis team member whose dedication to the team and to sport has excelled above all others.
Rodgers earned the Ted Haydon Medal, which is presented to the track & field athlete who scored the most points for the team at the University Athletic Association indoor and outdoor championship meets.
Founded in 1904, the undergraduate Order of the C is the nation's longest-running collegiate men's athletics support organization.
