Chicago Nets Five All-UAA Selections & Top Coaching Staff

CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago men's basketball team placed five players on the 2007 All-University Athletic Association Team and featured the league's Coaching Staff of the Year, the conference announced today.

Senior Brandon Woodhead (Lincoln, Neb./ East) and junior Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) were selected to the All-UAA first team, while senior Jesse Meyer (Omaha, Neb./ Bellevue West) earned second team honors. Seniors Drew Adams (Elida, Ohio/ Elida) and Jason Vismantas (Highland Park, Ill./ Highland Park) received honorable mention recognition.

Woodhead ranked among the UAA leaders in scoring (3rd, 15.8 ppg), free throw percentage (7th, 73.9%), field goal percentage (8th, 48.8%), and steals (8th, 1.40 per game) en route to earning UAA postseason accolades for the third consecutive season. On February 11, he became the 13th player in school history to reach the 1,000 career point plateau.

Hainje stood among the UAA leaders in four categories: three-point field goals (6th, 1.84 per game), assists (7th, 3.56 per game), rebounding (8th, 6.1 rpg), and free throw percentage (8th, 73.5%). Hainje, who averaged 13.6 points per game, became the first Chicago player to lead his team in rebounding and assists in the same season since assists were officially recorded at Chicago beginning in 1986-87.

Meyer, who ranked second in the UAA in three-point field goals (2.68 per game) and sixth in three-point percentage (42.7%), averaged 12.2 points per contest. He holds or shares Chicago records for most three-point baskets in a career (201), season (68), and game (8).

The UAA's eighth-most accurate three-point shooter (41.7%), Adams hit 40 three-point baskets and averaged 7.9 points per game. Vismantas started the Maroons' final seven games and averaged 9.6 points and 7.9 rebounds during that stretch.

Head Coach Mike McGrath and Assistant Coach Jarred Samples were cited as the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding the Maroons to a share of the Association championship with an 11-3 mark in league play.

Under McGrath and Samples, Chicago notched a 20-5 overall record, a #12 national ranking, and an-large berth in the NCAA Division III tournament.

The Maroons face Hope College in the regional semifinals Friday, March 2 at Aurora University.
