Maroons Edge Case 69-67

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Senior Brandon Woodhead (Lincoln, Neb./ East) led three Maroons in double figures with 18 points as the University of Chicago men's basketball team held on for a 69-67 University Athletic Association victory over Case Western Reserve University Sunday at the Veale Center.

Chicago (11-3 overall, 2-1 UAA), which led 38-29 at the intermission, held a single-digit lead throughout the second half.

A free throw by Woodhead with 3:53 left in the contest gave the Maroons a 64-57 lead -- matching their largest advantage of the second half.

Case's Antwain Coward converted a three-point play at the 2:36 mark to rally the Spartans to within one point, 64-63.

Chicago increased its lead to 68-63 on a basket by senior Jesse Meyer (Omaha, Neb./ Bellevue West) at the 1:53 mark and a free throw from senior Jason Vismantas (Highland Park, Ill./ Highland Park) with 40 seconds left.

Meyer and junior Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) finished with 15 and 14 points, respectively, as the Maroons won their second straight and fourth in five outings. Woodhead and Hainje each grabbed seven rebounds.

Mason Conrad led Case (4-10, 0-3) with a game-high 21 points, while Coward added 12 points off the bench.
