Maroons Defeat MSOE in Non-Conference Finale
MILWAUKEE -- Junior Nate Hainje (Brownsburg, Ind./ Brownsburg) scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds as the 20th-ranked University of Chicago men's basketball team defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering 70-53 in the Maroons' non-conference finale Tuesday night.
Hainje hit six of 12 shots from the field, including a 2-for-5 effort from three-point range, en route to his first career double-double. Six of his 15 boards came on the offensive end.
Hainje also dished out five assists as he led the Maroons (9-2) in points, rebounds, and assists for the second time in as many games.
Chicago led for all but the game's first 1:22. The Maroons opened up a 34-25 edge at the intermission and maintained a double-digit advantage for the game's final 19:31.
Senior Jesse Meyer (Omaha, Neb./ Bellevue West) finished with 15 points -- all on three-point baskets. The Maroons connected on 12 of 27 three-point attempts (44.4%) on the evening.
Jamel Sabree and Scott Murphy paced MSOE (8-5) with 12 and 11 points, respectively, off the bench.
